Hens Shed trip 5th October 2019

On the 5th of October our Hen’s shed visited the Fermanagh writers that were performing a play in Enniskillen Castle as part of the FLIVE Fermanagh Arts Festival.

The Play was written by 8 different authors and performed in Enniskillen Castle. The play was set in 1919 and was a cleverly written piece that portrayed the family, friends and fellow solider’s differing accounts of how a young catholic farmworker from an estate in Fermanagh came to being in Somme and what happened over the following two year period.

The Hen’s Shed thoroughly enjoyed the play and meeting with the Fermanagh writers they hope to be doing a scriptwriting project and collaborating further with Fermanagh group going forward.

The Ladies also enjoyed a tour of Enniskillen Castle on the day.

The project is funded by the International Fund for Ireland and is facilitated by the Ballinamore Area Community Council Ltd.

Ballinamore and Lisnaskea Men’s shed.

The Ballinamore and Lisnaskea Men’s Shed came together on Saturday 24th Aug for an enjoyable social and cultural event.

After an early start the group was welcomed to Leitrim Village by Seamus and Eileen of Electric Bike Trails Ltd. and an array of electric and peddle powered bikes .Leitrim Sports Partnerships’ Trio Bike or Trishaw was also out for the day which assisted the inclusion of all members of the group in enjoying the beautiful morning cycle. Seamus and Eileen guided the group through the picturesque Leitrim Village onto the Shannon Blueway. A tranquil twenty kilometer round trip of traffic free cycling, along the banks of the Lough Allen Canal onto the floating boardwalk at Acres Lake in Drumshanbo. A quick pit stop at McGuire’s Cottages’ to re-fuel with Jinny’s Scones and Barry’s Tea in the fabulous new tearooms.

The second part of the day took the group to the Arigna Mining Experience with incredible views across Lough Allen and the surrounding mountains.  The guide narrated stories of camaraderie, a job for life and fair and decent mine owners. The men thoroughly enjoyed the day out and got a chance to meet each other and discuss future plans and skill building that both sheds can participate  in and enjoy. The journey home was shortened by cheerful banter and some ballads lead by Máirtín O’Díomasaigh. The project is funded by the International Fund for Ireland and is facilitated by the Ballinamore Area Community Council Ltd.
