Ballinamore Area Community Council Clg
Helping to make our area a better place to live, work and play in.
Ballinamore Area Community Council Clg (BACC) was formed in 1975. Our main aim is job creation and the creation of leisure facilities for those who live locally, making the area a better place to live, work, and play in. The BACC is a community body representative of the catchment area of Aughawillan, Aughnasheelin, Ballinamore, Corraleehan, and Drumreilly. We continue to work in partnership with individuals and organisations enabling the whole locality to reach its full potential – culturally, economically, and socially.
Our first venture was to purchase land around Poll an Easa Waterfall, and create an amenity area for locals and tourists alike. We then built the Enterprise Units, which support existing enterprises and encourage new business start -ups by offering low rental in an accessible central location. Next we built a Sports Complex to provide indoor sporting facilities to ensure a healthier lifestyle for all ages. A few years ago we built a Community Den, where the 1st Leitrim Scouts are based and where our new Peace Impact Programme office is located. Our facilities are for use by all members of the community regardless of culture, race, or religious background.
Recently the BACC has grown its involvement economically and socially. We have continued to evolve our interests and support the major regeneration of the St Felims project.
In 2018 The Better Together – Níos Fearr Le Chéile (PIP) was developed from an observed need to engage our community economically and socially in peace-building activities. We aim to create opportunities and shared experiences by developing cross-community and cross-border relationships.
The Peace Impact Programme was extended for 2024-2026. In this programme we are focusing on cross-border youth programmes, looking to the future and learning from the past. We have also started a Community Services Hub, which runs every other Tuesday and provides information and signposting services, a repair cafe and swap shop.
