Building Capacity & Empowering Women
2024-2026 Project
In this project we plan to focus on working with a range of local women’s groups in Leitrim and Fermanagh. Working with partners and groups on both sides of the border, the programme’s aims are to address issues faced by women in rural areas and to empower them to deal with them in a positive manner.
The programme will consist of four sessions, each dealing with different issues faced by women, from both sides of the border, over four evenings. The proposed topics are:
- Money Management and dealing with financial problems.
- Women’s Mental Health and Resiliance
- Domestic Violence.
- Civic engagement in local communities.
Expert speakers will be engaged for each topic and there will be adequate opportunity for discussion and the provision of advice and guidance. We are proposing that each speaker will speak for about an hour, so there will be sufficient time for social interaction between the participants, with refreshments provided each evening.
The project will be completed with a best-practice visit to the Shankill Shared Women’s Centre, Belfast.
Previous Project
Capacity Building will seek to further relationships built up during our first Peace Impact Project. The committee has evolved and continues to develop incorporating a strategic plan as part of the groups development strategy.
As BACC Clg is a Social Enterprise, many initiatives could be built around slow tourism, cycling, walking, boating which can all have a cross border element. Building on existing infrastructure and engaging in joint marketing initiatives. The collaboration between BACCClg and Leitrim County Council in securing funding to renovate and bring back to life the old Railway Station into a modern Digital Hub, Arts School and Youth Facilities continues.
When restored, BACC Ltd hope to add these facilities to be run as part of our Social Enterprise.
Programme
The Programme will consist of four exciting and innovative workshops.
Session 1 – What is Social Enterprise and the Big Idea
Session 2 – Governance/ Business Planning
Session 3- Managing Finance/ All the Legal bits
Session 4- Knowing your Market and Finding Support
There will also be a good practice visit to Creggan Enterprises, Derry/Londonderry.

Explore differences and increase knowledge and understanding, through exchanges with cross border groups and statutory agencies including Fermanagh Omagh District Council and Leitrim County Council. Through networking visits and cultural awareness visits, we hope to build positive relations both north and south of the border.
Social Enterprise training and development will continue to increase skill set for committee members and the wider communities through the programmes specifically related to expanding social enterprise in the area. The facilitated workshops and capacity training will provide advice and training for the local and Cross Border Community Volunteers and Committee , along with Good practice visits to similar communities.
