In March, we welcomed Ukrainian Families into our community. “ As soon as we learned the families had arrived in the town, we opened a Drop in Centre from 10am to noon daily. Families were welcomed to gather for a chat, a cuppa and a safe place for their children to play” said Maírín Martin Chairperson. “ As always the generosity of the people of Ballinamore area was obvious with people donating clothing, footwear, toys, crayons, colouring books, etc” she said. Maírín and Elaine, who works in our Peace Impact Programme, “Better Together - Níos Fearr Le Chéile”, sorted and distributed all the donations to the families. An appeal was then put out for bicycles and five bikes were donated, which the children were thrilled about. We would like to thank all those in the area who generously donated and especially those who donated the bicycles. Supervalu and Dunne’s Stores staff who donated tea, coffee , biscuits, crisps and juice for the children. Thank you to Michelle Fanning, Ciara and Leitrim Sports Partnership who are providing activities for the families in Ballinamore. Thank you also to Josephine and Orla from the Leitrim Volunteer Centre for their support. |

Our Tidy Towns & RSS/TUS workers have been very busy over the past few months. The gardens & tunnels are looking absolutely amazing ! Our Chairperson, Máirín, ecured almost €10,000 Clár Funding to purchase a Teaching Tunnel along with a smaller Growing Tunnel. Funding was provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development with the support of Leitrim County Council.
Our Community Council were pleased to host the official opening of the Ballinamore - Corgar demonstration route, part of the new Cavan Leitrim Greenway, in our Community Den in June. The Greenway will eventually run from Belturbet to Mohill and will be an amazing tourist attraction in this area. Funding has already been secured for the next phase, from Corgar to Aughawillan. Ballinamore Canal Development Company along with Leitrim County Council, were the key players in securing funding from the Department of Rural Affairs for this Project. We congratulate them on their efforts and wish them continued success.
